Guillermo Lillo has successfully presented his thesis work at the «IV Simposio de Postgrado en Ingeniería, Ciencias e Innovación 2026», held on August 20 and 21 at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile.

Guillermo was part of an outstanding delegation of 50 students from the Department of Chemical, Biotechnological and Materials Engineering (DIQBM) who showcased their research through poster presentations. This prominent symposium aims to foster research, discussion, and knowledge exchange among postgraduate students, researchers, and the broader scientific community.

His thesis is titled: «Optimización multiobjetivo del proceso de ósmosis inversa en el contexto de la producción de agua para electrólisis». The research is supervised by Felipe Díaz Alvarado and co-supervised by Gonzalo Aguila.

As part of the SHORE project, Guillermo’s work focuses on reducing the carbon footprint in port operations by optimising ultra-pure water production for green hydrogen electrolysis. His research formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem to evaluate the optimal design of reverse osmosis networks, comparing the contrasting oceanographic conditions of the ports of Arica, Valparaíso, and Punta Arenas.
